LIZA MINELLI

21 10 2009

You have to work hard for it, but first you have to want it, and then you have to dream on it.

Liza Minelli

Liza Minelli is currently wowing audiences here in Australia and she is testament to the old saying “Never Give Up” Miss Minneli has been to hell and back in anyone’s language and yet she is still performing, travelling the world and proving to us all that setbacks make us stronger. She is a Doer; she doesn’t dwell on her past mistakes but rather looks forward to her future triumphs.

What are the setbacks you have experienced in your life? How have they made you stronger? How can you leverage that now to help you get out of your own way and become that strong, vibrant, purposeful and happy person you want to be?

Make a list of 10 experiences that you would rather not have had and then in hindsight state what you learned from the experience. What did the experience teach you about yourself? How did the experience change your perspective on life?

I’d love to hear how this exercise works for you, share your thoughts here.

MuMuMuMuMY GENERATION!

NEVER GOOD ENOUGH!

My generation was brought up to hide our brilliance as it was considered crass to “blow your own trumpet” and this, for many lead to a belief of never feeling quite as good as the next person. If you were a victim of this archaic mindset, you may still feel like that even though you intellectually know you are as skilled, smart and as intelligent as the next guy. Here are some tips to help you “get over yourself” and shine your greatness on the world.

1. Accept the fact that who you were as a child is not who you are now. You grew up!

2. Make a list of everything you are good at even if you think everyone can do it.

3. Begin to live “as if” you were as good as anyone else – don’t hold yourself back.

4. Make incremental changes daily to become the person you are capable of becoming.

5. Set yourself daily, weekly, monthly and long term goals that will keep you focused on who you want to become.

6. Create a group of 5 who will become your “success group” and have a weekly meeting, in person or by phone to challenge and help each other grow.

7. Get rid of whatever you are tolerating, it may be things, people or circumstances. Move on.

8. Create daily success practices. Whatever will help you achieve mastery in your goals.

9. Develop or indulge your sense of humour. Lighten up on life

10. Begin to look at nature and all its wonder. Draw energy from the seasons, the beauty, the sheer magnificence of a crashing wave, a mountain vista, a bird feeding its young. Remember that we are all a part of this magnificence, not separate from, and give thanks that you are here, right now and part of something much bigger than you or I can begin to imagine.

All you need to do is GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY! and DARE TO BE GREAT!

Get it ALL done!

28 09 2009

Are you spending way too much time getting “derailed” on the Internet? Is your to do list never ending? Get help now!

These are my 3 top tips to help you stay on track, focused and accountable. Enjoy!

1.) This can be really annoying to begin with and that is why it works so well. Set a timer or chime (online or offline) to go off at 30 or 60 minute intervals to remind you to stay on track throughout the day. This will annoy you to the point that you won’t need it anymore, so persevere until that happens. What it does is create an awareness of where you are wasting time and then you have the choice to change your habits.

2.) Work according to your energy levels. If you are a morning person for instance schedule as much as you can handle into that time-frame and spread the rest out over the afternoon. Tap into your energy resources and use them to your advantage. Don’t burn out by just working non stop, create some energy balance. Power out – power in. Find your power sources.

3.) This is my personal favourite. I write a “doing” list every morning on one of those small whiteboards. This is not a “wish” list for the day; it is actual things you want to complete that day. I even schedule my bike rides or exercise plans in there, lunch, coffee break, social networking whatever; write it all down and put a time next to it. If you know a chatty friend is ringing you, schedule the time or give them a more convenient option. It works, I promise.

The trick is not to overload the doing list and that is why we put in the time-frames. Put a big tick when it is completed and at the end of the day you just wipe the board clean. This gives you a sense of achievement and you never leave anything on the board. Before you knock off for the day write what you will DO tomorrow, brilliant! My clients love this!

After a few weeks this becomes your default mode and you find that you have time for so much more than when you were just allowing the day to dictate what you did. I used to loathe being organized in any way because freedom is my top value and now I realize that I was being a bit stubborn and foolish even and now I create even more freedom by designing my day exactly as I want it to pan out.

The first couple of days you may find yourself scheduling too many tasks, just scale it down until your Doing board gets done and then keep adding to it. I would love to know if you decide to use these tips and how they help you organize your day.

If I can help in any way please contact me, I would love to hear from you and don’t forget the one time low launching price on COACHING BOOT CAMPS finishes at the end of this month.

Have a brilliant week,

Joan

HAPPY HAPPY SPRING!

“Daffodils” (1804)

I wander’d lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the Milky Way,

They stretch’d in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed — and gazed — but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

By William Wordsworth (1770-1850).

Hey! Whatcha doin?

27 08 2009

Are you ready to soar like an eagle?

Are you ready to soar like an eagle?

Hey guys,

So far, no takers for my Action Challenge of Turning up the Heat for August! I am keeping the faith and just know that someone will start this ball rolling. If that is you, thank you for helping me get more people taking more action more often. Go for it! You’ll be glad you did.

Hey! Have you heard the term “Sprinter”? We are experiencing 27 degree days here in Sydney and it is Winter – with a touch of Spring -Sprinter, get it? Have a brilliant week of action. Joan

LET’S TURN UP THE HEAT!

1 08 2009

I invite and DARE you to take the August Challenge!

For the next 5 months let’s turn up the heat on our goals. We will begin by getting absolutely focused on our Vision. We will then turn up the gas on our Action Steps and by December we will be celebrating huge Results and enjoying ginormous rewards. Imagine what a fantastic Christmas you could be having this year with no need for New Year Resolutions because you will be way ahead of your game.

If you have something you would really like to achieve why not “go public” and shout from the rooftops what you intend to do, who you intend to be and share your intentions with some like-minded new pals. Together we will give each other encouragement, share wins and challenges and generally just “be there” when the need arises. I will write an update each week to keep us focused.

So many of us try to do everything ourselves because we believe we “should” be able to do so. Not true, as I have found out myself. Life becomes so much better when we aren’t afraid to ask for help or share our dreams and goals with other like minded folk. Isolation isn’t a great recipe for success .

Often just having that weekly accountability can help keep us on track. Big or small, it is the consistency that creates the habits that change our lives. By taking these weekly steps you will be creating your own new habits which in turn can actually change your life. By making a commitment to blog your actions and results you are owning the change and taking accountability. This can be a very powerful and important step, if you’re game!

This is what it might look like:   from 6 – 13th August (If you want to choose a big goal for the 6 months, just break it down into monthly steps and then weekly steps and watch yourself soar!)

My name is: …………………………………..

My goal is to: ……………………………………..                  By ………………………… (date)

My Action steps this week are to ……………………………………………………………………………….

My reward will be ……

My affirmation will be (example) “I am confident, competent and willing to do this”.

The obstacle I face this week is ……………………    I will overcome this by ………………………………………

Just by taking this simple weekly step, imagine what we can all achieve by the end of the year! Let’s go for it!

Joan

Dare to be first! x
